The Keep describes otherworldly excitement with “Through Portals”

A few weeks ago we brought you “Acqua Alta”, the excellent track from Gothenburg-based producer The Keep. This Friday he is releasing his new EP, Andra, and to increase excitement he has shared the set’s opening track “Through Portals”. He says:

“‘Through Portals’ was written at the time I was moving from London to Gothenburg so it’s really a reflection of that time and the nervous excitement of new beginnings. I kind of imagined it as venturing into a dark ancient forest that’s probably got magical creatures in it.”

Once again, The Keep has layered the sounds with precision to describe a guttural feeling that we all know well. “Through Portals” begins with light percussion and synths, which evokes the feeling of your skin prickling with nerves and excitement. The production stays building steadily, adding more layers, giving the rhythms more textural complexity, before it all comes to a head with a heavy bass lurch. At this point we have entered the “dark ancient forest” he imagined, full of glistening sounds, mysterious depth and enlivening zags of luminous synths – you won’t want to be anywhere else.

The Keep’s new EP, Andra, is out this Friday May 15 on Houndstooth. Follow him on FacebookTwitter and Instagram.
