talker unleashes relatable rage on “TWENTYSOMETHING”

There’s a buzz building already for the debut album from LA alt-pop artist talker (Celeste Tauchar). That release is coming in 2024, but the first single is already here: “TWENTYSOMETHING”, a frenetic-but-very-relatable song about being young in an unwelcoming world.

“This song is me giving myself permission to be frustrated, to say ‘what the fuck’ and to kick something,” says talker. “I know that I’ll still have to pay off my credit card and open a high-yield savings account, but in this moment, if I can get people to sing out their rage with me, that’s all I need.”

Let’s face it: the 21st century has been a shit-show, especially for people in their 20s. That frustration boils over in “TWENTYSOMETHING”, where talker sings, “I’ve got no job, depression / just turned 26 and / I lost my insurance / and my therapist is too expensive.”

Despite the setbacks, the sun is starting to peek through the clouds for talker. Her 2022 EP In Awe Of Insignificance was easily one of the best that year – and the new album is being produced by (among others) Collin Pastore and Jake Finch, who have worked with Lucy Dacus, boygenius and illuminati hotties. If talker gets the chance to support artists like that next year, concert-goers will learn what music reviewers have known since 2019: she has the talent to be a generational icon like Sheryl Crow and Hayley Williams.
