Juliana Madrid wants more than “Just Enough”

Dallas-raised, NYC-based Juliana “Jules” Madrid is back with a powerful prelude-to-summer single called “Just Enough” on Neon Gold Records. It’s a preview of her third EP, due later this year. Jules’ vocal warmth and songwriting skill remind me of all-time greats like Stevie Nicks and Emmylou Harris.

Madrid’s accomplishments in the last two years are impressive. Her 2022 self-titled debut EP was produced by Grammy-nominated artist/producer Benjamin Ruttner of The Knocks. She has shared the stage with boygenius, Ethel Cain and Cannons – and is about to kick off a North American tour supporting Alice Merton that culminates at The Troubadour in LA.

She says: “‘Just Enough’ is about that wall you hit in a relationship. You’re doing everything right and so are they, but something still feels off. You start wondering if they are really your person and have wandering eyes, but never do anything about it. You feel guilty for being bored. You’re doing the bare minimum in this love now, just enough to keep them from leaving.”

It’s not surprising that Jules is a protégé of The Knocks, a duo that has elicited career-best performances from artists like Donna Missal, Dragonette and Carly Rae Jepsen. They know a special talent when they hear it – and it’s on full display in Jules’ new single.
