Spring Silver gets a “Gold Star” for creativity in new single

Spring Silver’s new single “Gold Star” sounds like the kind of music Brian Eno would have made if he grew up in the 2010s. Every note your hear is the work of one individual: multi-instrumentalist/producer/mixer K Nkanza, an artist who hails from the Washington, D.C. area.

If you’re searching for something artistically inventive, look no further than “Gold Star.” For starters, the rhythmically complex song runs nearly eight minutes, starting with slashing guitars that turn dreamy and celestial midway through the opus.

Nkanza also created the remarkable video for the song, which feels like you’re riding through an art gallery on a motorcycle. It’s a mad blend of famous scientists, Zoolander, video games and visual critiques of consumer culture.

“I wanted to let the sonics of the song guide my visuals more than the lyrics,” says Nkanza. “The lyrics are pretty straightforward tonally in their condemnation of American capitalism. But the song itself kind of straddles a lot of different moods: exuberance, anxiety, all this shifting stuff.”
