New York-based sound artist Rachika Nayar has returned with more looped and layered solo guitar works, fragments. This time linking up with RVNG Intl. for the latest installment of their THERE series, fragments was realized within the “familiar comforts” of her bedroom.
Following her debut album, On Our Hands Against the Dusk, released just earlier this year, fragments finds Nayar delving ever deeper into her sound. Her comfort with her instrument is key, as the guitar is always present, but processed and looped to the point of often blending to perfection with the accompanying instruments and sounds. Its tendrils reach toward the future and primitivism all at once.
A press release elaborates, “fragments is not only a document of Nayar’s domesticity and the preliminary writing processes that evolve into song, but also a measurement of memory and spiritual realignment. … Nayar uses fragments to preserve the moment, both fleeting and indelible, through its connection to place, in unchanging, raw detail. fragments provides an intimacy between Nayar and those listening in parallel spaces, activating our collective past and shared unconscious experience.”
Check out the project’s first single, “Clarity”, below and look out for fragments come July 23rd.
fragments is out on July 23 through RVNG Intl. You can find Rachika Nayar on Facebook and Instagram.
