Miss Grit battles her insecurities on the crunchy “Dark Side of the Party” and announces new EP

Korean-American songwriter and producer Margaret Sohn aka Miss Grit has announced a new EP called Impostor, which follows up her beloved 2019 debut EP Talk Talk. As suggested by the title, Impostor deals with her issues with impostor syndrome, feeling like she wasn’t really a musician. This drove her to produce the new EP herself, to prove that she was who she believed herself to be. She says:

“I’ve gone my whole life feeling really uncomfortable defining myself. I realized that a lot of the time, I’m more comfortable with other people defining me and making up their mind about who I’m supposed to be.”

Lead single “Dark Side of the Party” taps into these feelings in a cathartic and explosive pop-rocker, where she truly does show off her pristine production chops. Utilising crunchy guitars, pinging electronics, and dashing synths, she creates a vibrant world of a boisterous party. Although, the confidence in the musical portion belies the insecurity at play in her voice and words, where she admits she’s feeling small and having trouble seeing the point. It’s a vivid approximation of being at a loud party full of people, where you somehow manage to shrink into the shadows and disappear – but a visceral and enjoyable evocation, at that.

Miss Grit’s Impostor EP comes out on February 5. You can find her on Bandcamp, Facebook and Instagram.
