Happyness epically crumble on the gorgeous “title track”

London’s Happyness are releasing their new album Floatr this Friday, May 1, and as a final teaser they’ve shared “title track”, the album’s opener, which was actually envisioned as a film closer. The band’s Jonny explains:

This track was kind of like the scene at the end of the movie Dark Star where he’s convincing the bomb not to explode and kill them all. It’s about hindsight mainly, like your brain rattling like an old machine starting up again trying to get up to speed with reality, and you’re probably acting semi-lobotomised whilst it’s happening.’

The lobotomised euphoria described by Jonny above is fully realised in the epic scope of “title track”. It’s a song that builds from acoustic drift, the opening couplet “Maybe my trip was sex / Maybe the drugs don’t quit” doesn’t kick off the usual ‘I fucked it up’ narrative and is more like ‘fuck yeah, I did that!’ Even if “title track” does seem to be heralding the end of everything, it’s not going out with a whimper, but in a blaze of searing nostalgic joy for all the good times.

Happyness’ new album Floatr is out this Friday, May 1, via Infinit Suds.

They’ve also announced their re-scheduled UK tour dates for October, including their biggest headline show yet at London’s Scala. Take a look at the full list over on their Facebook.
