claire rousay announces hopeful new album everything perfect is already here, shares extract

Since releasing the rapturous album a softer focus last April (on of our Top 50 Albums of 2021), sound artist claire rousay has not been idle. She’s put out a couple of collaborations, as well as probably some other things that have flown under our radar, but today she announces that she’ll put out her next ‘proper’ album in April.

everything perfect is already here will come out on April 22 through her label home Shelter-Press. It features contributions from Alex Cunningham (violin), Mari Maurice (electronics and violin), Marilu Donovan (harp), and Theodore Cale Schafer (piano) and takes the format of two long-form pieces called “it feels foolish to care” and “everything perfect is already here”.

Along with the announcement she has shared a five-minute extract from the album, which gives us a tantalising window into the work. In the snippet we hear how rousay’s myriad tactile sounds and field recordings meld so perfectly with the acoustic instruments, with the harp playing the most prominent role in this section. Even in its curtailed form, it’s stunning.

Listen to the extract below.
