Róisín Murphy has announced her signing to Ninja Tune and has shared her first single for the legendary London label in the form of “CooCool”. It finds her once again pairing with DJ Koze on production, and she says about it:
“Ostensibly a fragile little flower yet it has great hidden strength at the roots. There’s classic virtuosity and a lightness of touch, while DJ Koze’s hyper-modern production makes it bounce and glide. It’s a stupidly romantic little love poem. “This thing is way beyond any kind of parody”. Everything in this song is true and playful. Where Murphy’s last album, 2020’s Róisín Machine, was a dancefloor odyssey, “CooCool” slows things down a bit and takes us out into the splendour of a sunny day lounging on the grass in the arms of someone you adore. Murphy is unabashed in her declarations of love and adoration and how it makes her feel cool, free and infinite, vocally cooing in appreciation of her partner. This sensation is heightened by Koze’s subtle-but-detailed production, which floats “the track “CooCool” somewhere into territory between funk and house – the perfect space for indulging in unabashed romance.
