The Beths gnash their way through the thrilling “Silence is Golden”, announce new album

New Zealand heroes The Beths are back with news of their third album: it’s called Expert In A Dying Field and comes out on September 16 through Carpark. They’ve shared the lead single “Silence is Golden”, with singer Elizabeth Stokes saying:

“The song is about stress and anxiety manifesting as an intolerance to noise, where each new sound makes you more and more stressed.”

To emphasise the stress of the situation The Beths have turned out their thorniest and most aggressive guitar turn yet in “Silence is Golden”, but they still make sure to carve a path through it for their irresistible hooky songwriting. Stokes portrays her usual every-person approach, just a humble human trying to make their way through life, obstacles be damned, her cutting lyricism emanating across the frantic playing. In sync with their politely furious singer, The Beths show display their tightness through restrained breakdowns that bounce back into bass overdrive and guitar solos, making this downhill run even more emphatic. It’s a fist-pumping and heart-bursting return for our favourite Kiwis.
