Record Store Day Returns April 16th, 2011

Record Store Day may be the most bittersweet day of the year. The record holiday is now appearing multiple times a year, the last being on Black Friday in 2010, and pretty much rules, with a host of your favorite acts offering exclusive, rare, new or just plain cool releases available at your local independent record store. The unsaid reality is that it is shitty that Record Store Day is needed in the first place, but the music world rolls with the punches and if Record Store Day is the reason for getting music fans to actually cough up some change for the music they enjoy, then so be it.

The official date is set for April 16th, again right in the middle of Coachella, which usually creates some pretty cool opportunities to get an autograph or two on your hyper-rare vinyls. Not a whole lot of info is available on what is going to be featured this year, but as previously reported, new Sub Pop band The Head And The Heart will offer their debut’s physical release on that day. Pitchfork now throws Fucked Up’s name into the mix, who will be offering the companion to their upcoming rock opera on this day. The band “along with various guest singers, will do their best to re-create various British punk, pre-punk, and postpunk styles from the time period, creating fake versions of real musical movements.” Sounds cool.
