Neo noir rock band LODRO seem to have crawled out from some unpublished Philip Marlowe story. Â The band’s music seems to consist of rough edges, shadowy alleyways, and a slowed down punk shuffle that would fit in perfectly with the other unsavory characters of Marlowe’s world. Â Consisting of Lesley Hann (ex-Friends) and Jeremy Cox and Jigmae Baer (both formerly of Royal Baths), LODRO peddle a darkly unique vision of psych-tinged punk that’s slowed down until it appears to be stalking the avenues of its own construction. Â They’ve just released their debut 7″ via Tracer Sounds and are now sharing the b-side, a slithering and disquieting cover of Townes Van Zandt’s “Snake Song.” Â Hann’s voice saunters through the song like the last wisps of a smoke from a spent cigarette, and Cox and Baer give the track a dangerous, rhythmic push. Â Listen to their take on “Snake Song” below.
