Greentea Peng delivers a tour-de-force in “Your Mind”

Greentea Peng is back with “Your Mind”, her first new music since last year’s excellent debut album MAN MADE.

The new track is a display of just about everything that Peng and her band, the Seng Seng Family, are good at – which is a lot. It begins as a psychedelic rock-rap song, the drums rattling off the edge of oblivion while Peng displays the sharpness of her tongue, wrapping it around a delicious guitar lick. However, she and her band show their dexterity and flexibility by easing off the gas and letting “Your Mind” lapse into a sweeping confessional, Peng admitting “I’m my own worst enemy / no one can judge me harder than I judge myself” as violins sweep across the soundscape. After breathtakingly sweeping back and forth between these two modes a couple of times, “Your Mind” eases into a bracing, beautiful comedown. “I’m here to stay,” is the song’s repeated message – and we’re damn glad about it.
