Greentea Peng meditates on creative inspiration in “Look To Him”

South London star Greentea Peng continues to tease us with new singles as we wait for official news of a new album to follow up last year’s excellent debut MAN MADE. We’ve had the singles “Your Mind” and “Stuck In The Middle”, and today Peng makes it a hattrick of new tracks for 2022 with “Look To Him”. She says:

“Look To Him explores the idea of originality and the notion of tapping into source energy for creativity and inspiration rather than just searching for it amongst your peers and surroundings. At the same time, it challenges the idea that anything is truly original as nothing is truly our own rather seeped into us from a Higher Power and thus channelled from God him/herself.”

Peng’s exploration of inspiration in “Look To Him” takes an almost psychogeographical form, as we walk around inside her point of view, witnessing the world through her eyes and understanding that inspiration oozes out of every crack. Her band, the Seng Seng Family, provides an effortlessly sauntering jazz backing that animates her patient paces around the city. She smoothly delivers life lessons as she struts through the song; “limitations are a mental thing / appreciation for the little wins / on your own two feet with your heart on fire”. She sums it up it in her swaggering chorus: “up town down town all around town I listen to the sound / head in the clouds one foot on the ground it’s the get around / I ain’t in a rush, gonna push, let the big man do his thing / if you gotta force it then you know it ain’t happening”. It’s one to take out on the streets with you this weekend as your search for your own inspiration.
