London songwriter Fran Lobo has signed to legendary label Heavenly Recordings and shared her first single for the imprint, “All I Want”. On the new song, she says:
“It’s a dystopian trip through the inner psyche. It’s a battle and a struggle. A lament and a prayer for a better inner and outer world. We venture through a twisted and dark terrain until we summon the holy choir who hear our call, tempting us into a deranged party where we live our sensual desires and play out our sadistic fantasies until we implode!”
To animate this dystopian trip, Lobo employs disembodied wails, trembling synth and a duo of syncopated beats, painting a landscape of disillusion and questioning. Lobo’s voice moves through this realm with equal parts power and uncertainty; she knows what she wants, but she’s unsure where to get it. “All I Want” shuffles across this musical terrain for several minutes, new details emerging on the horizon with unwinding horns and subtle harp plucks, building towards a heavenly choral crescendo. Lobo reels us into her world expertly – only to then pull the rug out for the last minute, where the song gets sliced in half with a buzz-saw synth. The performer hops right on the beat and serves up a chest-puffed-out rap and a pounding hook that comes from nowhere and absolutely demolishes.
