Bnny explore grief and the volatility of relationships on new single “Breaking Up”

Coming on the heels of their acclaimed 2021 debut, Everything, Chicago-based quintet Bnny have just released a new standalone single, “Breaking Up”, and it’s “yet another breakup song”, band leader Jessica Viscius jokingly explains, “a reflection of my past and present”.

Gilded by Viscius’ lulling vocals and gauzy instrumentation, the song details the emotional volatility of romantic entanglements and the grief that often reveals itself within these situations. Guitars chime and sparkle and fuzz while she sings of “breaking up and making up / and breaking up again”. And even as we process these feelings, we establish  emotional defenses to ward off precipitous heartache — and “Breaking Up” finds the band discovering new ways to confront, accept, and act upon these tidal forces. Music can often be used as a coping mechanism, and Bnny are finding relief through the rhythmic catharsis of “Breaking Up”.
