Manchester noise powerhouse Mandy, Indiana have released a new track, “Idea Is Best”, ahead of their US visit. It’s the first new music from the band since brilliant debut i’ve seen a way (read our review), which came out last year via Fire Talk.
The group are playing two Coachella shows on the West Coast, and one club show on the East Coast at New York’s Elsewhere: none other than Mary Jane Dunphe and Water From Your Eyes is DJing at the latter show.
“Idea is Best” shows a more electronic side to the quartet, with eerie synths, hissing drum machines and vocalist Valentine Caulfield possessing the music with her presence, much like she does on stage (and often off it as well, chatting with onlookers as if she’s part of the audience). Whether “Idea Is Best” will be a harbinger of a new recording project or a standalone release is yet unknown, but lets cross our fingers for the latter.
“Idea is Best was produced whilst we were touring Europe,” says guitarist Scott Fair. “After a particularly memorable gig at a Hitness Club event in Leipzig we took audio recorded in the crowd and manipulated it into this mutant track. It’s the first track we’ve ever written on the road and feels like it captures the mood of that time and space very well”
