I Am The Dot is the project of Zach Tipton, who hails from the ever-burgeoning Colorado indie scene. His Bridges EP is the first release on Fight the Future Cassettes, the new tape label for the awesome blog The Great Pumpkin. Tipton’s music is a great lesson in moderation, especially in 2010 when the year’s music will be remembered more for it excess (thanks Kanye and Sufjan) than the delicate and precise instrumentation you’ll find on Bridges. On “We Have Not Arrived” you can hear fleeting trumpets hissing in the background, a simple guitar chord repeated over and over, all leading to a clash of piano keys and Tipton’s emphatic vocals. “We Have Not Arrived” is like a cleansing of the musical pallet, a coming down of sorts, re-orienting the listener with straight-forward pop music that is all too often lost in the shuffle.
