Philadelphia greats Mannequin Pussy are back with news of a new album called I Got Heaven arriving on March 1 through Epitaph. They’ve also shared a new single and video called “I Don’t Know You” with Marisa Dabice saying:
“This is simply a song about having a crush. About the excitement and playful fantasy that can come from meeting someone unexpectedly at a festival, or on the street, or in line at the grocery store. You don’t know when you’ll see them again but the rush of their possibility lingers, making you yearn to know more about them.”
The song presents a right-turn into dreampop for the often outrageously sneering band, but it’s a natural glide into this angelic sound – and it is perfect for a song about useless desire. “I know a lot of things / but I don’t know you” Dabice sighs as the guitars blur into a cloud of longing and synth keys float in the background, like glimmers of hope that linger in her forlorn mind. As riotously angry as they can be, “I Don’t Know You” proves that Mannequin Pussy are just as impactful when turning inwards.
