ROCH aka London-based artist Kate Miller, has shared her first new music since the release of her excellent debut album Via Media last year. It’s a cover of the Kylie Minogue classic “Confide in Me”, to which Miller has quite a personal connection. She says:
“This year has made me nostalgic for pretty much everything. Kylie’s music reminds me of better times – and she is the first artist I saw live. Confide In Me is as old as I am – it’s a beautiful song and the original song’s instrumental starts similarly to the opening track on my debut album Via Media. I wanted to record the cover partly as a sort of comfort blanket but also to pay homage to a musical icon.”
She may have a lot of nostalgia for the original, but ROCH isn’t here to make a carbon copy of Kylie’s “Confide in Me”. Instead, she stamps her own impactful sound on it, with her spectral voice echoing off into a cavernous space as electronic beats bubble up from the ground below – a huge sound to fully transmit her empathy. Opening up her powerful voice in the chorus, beaming out the message “confide in me” like a searchlight over stormy waters, she converts the suggestive tone of the original into something truly gracious and, yes, saintly.

Hopefully there’s more to come from ROCH in the not too distant future, so make sure to follow her on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
