Ty Segall interrupts your day with the psych nugget “Hello, Hi”, announces new album

Some news that will unliklely surprise but will still delight: Ty Segall will release a new album called Hello, Hi on July 22 through Drag City. It was assembled mostly by Ty by himself in his home studio, and finds the songwriter channeling all his usual excitable whims.

The first dose of what’s to come arrives in the title track, which is released alongside the announcement. “Hello, Hi” kicks off with Ty harmonising with himself in an angelic introduction, before the chug of his guitar and drums slashes through the tranquility with devilish ease. “Hello, Hi” continues to chug along on this gas-guzzling riffage for its runtime, while Ty’s falsetto and fluttering vocals provide the perfect foil. Figuring out what he’s singing about might take some doing – perhaps he is simply dropping in just to say “hello” and remind us that he can still write ripping little rockers like this one without breaking a sweat. And to that we say “well, hello, how do you do, won’t you come in and play us some more?”
