Tim Koh swallows his worries on gurgling jam “The Stomach”

Psych-pop purveyor Tim Koh is hot on the trail towards the release of his debut album In Your Dreams, which is coming out on September 18. Having already shared “Fall Into Your Dream” and “Rational Anthem”, today he delivers “The Stomach”, saying:

I wanted to make a simple song about how the idea of cultural / personal relations can manifest in the body somewhere and make you sick. I thought the stomach was a place where this happens the most. the stomach is like a short-term storage which allows us to eat a big meal fast and then deal with it over a longer period of time. Life is like that and hopefully it’s a good, healthy ‘meal’ otherwise you’re in for some pain.”

Koh once again draws on his natural affinity for pop melodies and unusual production choices to create a song that is immediately appealing but also engrossingly strange. “The Stomach” starts pleasantly enough with sing-song melodies and a light groove propelling dizzying thoughts about money and deceit. But when it comes time to digest those words, “The Stomach” transports us down into the belly of the song, and turns into a gurgling, burbling and unsettling soundscape where it actually sounds like we’re being digested alive. Fortunately, Koh then sets us back on dry land by bringing “The Stomach” back to its pop basis for a peaceful finale.

Check out the video for “The Stomach” below, created by Gaya Von Schwarze, which gives us more of a window into Tim Koh and his playful sensibility.
