The Soft Moon returns with the brooding “Him” alongside fish narc, announces new album

Luis Vasquez’s The Soft Moon project helped build the groundwork for the post-punk revival of the 2010s via underappreciated records like Zeros and 2015’s Deeper – easily his most resonating work to date. For his last record, 2018’s Criminal, he not only hopped over to Sacred Bones, but also pushed more electronic and away from his post-punk roots.

Now, on September 23, The Soft Moon will release his fifth full-length Exister via Sacred Bones.

“The whole point of this record was to share every emotion that I feel,” says Vasquez. “No two songs are the same. It’s about existing in the world as a human being and experiencing many emotions and experiences throughout life. Exister is my way of saying ‘I’m here, deal with it.’ “

Teaming up with emo-rapper and Soundcloud producer fish narc for his new single “Him,” Vasquez departs even further while still keeping himself firmly in the spectrum of his previous work. With high falsettos, panting vocals, and voice manipulations “Him” is without a doubt the most intriguing sound to come from The Soft Moon in quite some time.
