Tame Impala indulges in fantasy for “Wings of Desire”, from the Dungeons & Dragons soundtrack

Kevin Parker aka Tame Impala has released his first new single in a while, “Wings of Desire”, which was written for the soundtrack to the new movie Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Parker says:

“Being asked to do a track for the D&D soundtrack seemed like an unmissable opportunity to indulge in my long time love of fantasy prog rock. I recruited my good friend Nicholas Allbrook, who is the person I know appreciates this subject matter the most. We rented a villa in Spain, that kind of felt like a castle, for two nights whilst on tour for Primavera. That location got us in the right frame of mind and it went from there. We stayed up late coming up with weird ideas and song lyrics.”

While “Wings of Desire” finds Tame Impala indulging in fantasy, Parker has not gone fully prog with epic tales about orks and soldiers; there’s no massive riffs, nor an extended run time filled with crescendoes and break downs. Instead it’s sort of just another Tame Impala song, but with slightly more elemental imagery – though it still reverts back to pining for love, as usual.
