Skylet Gunner channels Brando on “Bang Bang Baby”

LA artist Skylet Gunner’s new single “Bang Bang Baby” proves that she’s both a singular talent and a branding genius. The accompanying video is so astounding that I could see it getting an Oscar nomination for best short film. Even though the song celebrates the American Outlaw spirit, it was written in Berlin.

Unlike most of today’s bedroom popsters, Skylet makes music inspired by 50s/60s icons like Marlon Brando and Nancy Sinatra (with just a dash of Bowie-in-Berlin on some songs). On “Bang Bang Baby”, she enlists the help of some legendary names: producer Erik Alcock (Pink, Eminem), mixing engineer Mills Logan (Taylor Swift, Shania Twain) and video director Regina Pigsley.

Says Skylet: “For a long time, I’ve had this idea to do something like a scene from ‘The Wild One’ with Marlon Brando on his motorcycle with a fake backdrop. Teaming up with my friend Regina Pigsley and Sargasso Media was definitely the move. We collaborate so well and she’s killer.”

Gunner will release two more singles this spring in advance of her next album. She truly belongs on a wanted poster because after viewing this video, you’ll want to see her in a full-length movie.
