Raveena announces daring new concept album, launches “Secret” featuring Vince Staples

Never say Raveena isn’t ambitious. For her approaching sophomore album, Asha’s Awakening, which she’s just officially announced, she is going all in on a proper concept album.

Indeed, it tells the story of an alien princess from ancient Punjab who lives through multiple centuries and comes to bear all the emotional weight of just such an endless lifetime: ecstasy, suffering, and, perhaps, ultimately, enlightenment.

To present a tale with such an epic scope, blending influences ranging from Alice Coltrane to Timbaland’s work with Missy Elliott and Aaliyah. Another major influence, Indian legend Asha Puthli is more than just an inspiration: she’s featured on the project.

Kicking things off today is “Secret”, which features none other than the eternally dependable Vince Staples.

She says: “To me, ‘Secret’ is a song about love that traverses through different dimensions. People on Earth are starting to have sensual dreams ignited in them by a space princess – someone they feel like their body knows, but whom they also do not know and cannot reach in this dimension. What if your lover was enticing you from space and you couldn’t reach them in this realm? What if a spirit from an outer dimension ignited your sacral chakra? This is what ‘Secret’ explores.”
