Portrayal of Guilt invite us to share in their nightmare in “…where the suffering never ends”

Portrayal of Guilt will be releasing their second album of 2021 – the provocatively titled CHRISTFUCKER – on November 5. They’ve already shared the album’s unforgiving closer “Possession” and today give those of us who haven’t been scared away yet a new teaser called “…where the suffering never ends.”

As expected from the title, “…where the suffering never ends” is an unforgivably loud and engulfing track, the trio seemingly utilising every limb they have to create a cacophony of imposing noise. Vocally, Matt King’s voice is just as demonic as ever, but there’s no mistaking his hell-sprung wails of lines like “Spiraling down the staircase, straight to Hell” or “I bash my head into the concrete until my skull caves in”, the band thrashing, pulling back and then unleashing themselves again unison with the horrific imagery. It undoubtedly takes a certain kind to enjoy this music, but for those of us who do, Portrayal of Guilt are treating us to some of the most finely created, layered and detailed music of this ilk we’ve ever heard.

The video for “…where the suffering never ends” was directed by Craig Harvey, who says:

“I wanted to make an immersive film, which takes the viewer on a progressive journey that never seems to end. I had a structured idea that I wanted to shoot, but also shot loads of ominous scenes that could develop new ideas about the story for the viewer. The initial edit was between 15-20 minutes long, leaving me no option but to cut it down. I decided to leave the opening act as long as I could by extending the intro sounds, which are various parts of the song slowed down and reversed. We camped overnight in the forest to shoot the film in a mostly chronological order, between us we had over 1000 harvest mite bites by the end of it…”
