Pan Daijing prepares new LP release of operatic exhibition-performance, shares “A Found Lament”

Pan Daijing has had one hell of a year. Having released one of the year’s very best albums in Jade, she’s set to return early for something akin to a victory lap.

Naturally, it’s no simple affair. Having engaged in an original performance for an exhibition within the Tanks at the Tate Modern in autumn 2019, which was a “five-part immersion in performance, sound, movement, space, and most of all emotion in its most distilled and conflicted states”, PAN is now preparing to release an hour-long excerpt from her practicing within a studio space, a priceless testament to the original experience.

Tissues both stands alone and connects to everything in Daijing’s body of work, composed, directed, designed, and written all by herself – but was performed with a cast of 12 dancers and opera singers. Using opera as a jumping off point, Tissues somehow seamlessly splits the difference between its epic, gruelling scope and an intimate experience for its audience.

Listen to “Part 2 – A Found Lament” below.

Look out for Tissues come January 21st, 2022 on PAN. You can find Pan Daijing on Instagram.
