Nils Frahm shares the lengthy, meditative, yet warm, “Lemon Day”

Nils Frahm doesn’t really slow down, nor does he miss. He’s been on a tear since 2018’s beloved All Melody, and is now prepared to offer his latest project.

His latest is something of an answer to the legendary Music for Airports (while also bearing a tongue-in-cheek purpose, but more on that in a moment), and bears the perfect title: Music for Animals. Today, he’s shared the latest song from the project, “Lemon Day”.

As the title readily implies, it’s a track full of warmth, one that never drags despite it’s nearly 20 minute run time. Opening softly, it gradually expands a gently bouncing groove, one that’s perfect background music for a summer bike ride or stroll.

Speaking on the project’s title, Frahm shares, “I feel a certain frustration with the functional use of music these days, all these playlists with names like Music for Sleeping, Music for Focus, Music for Masturbation,” Frahm laughs. “Music always seems to need to do something useful. Thatʼs a very client-driven logic: the client needs something, the music should deliver that, otherwise ʻYouʼre Fired!ʼ With this album, there was no specific audience in mind, and nor was it adapted to any particular purpose. But in fact, it seemed to please the animals Iʼve spent a lot of time with these last months, so, you know: if you canʼt beat them, join them…!

Check out “Lemon Day” below, and look out for Music for Animals come September 23rd.
