Lucy Dacus has shared a new single called “Kissing Lessons”, which was recorded at the same time as last year’s utterly lovable Home Video and possesses that same worming, nostalgic quality.
A sub-two-minute fuzzball, “Kissing Lessons” finds Dacus unspooling a story from her early teens that she seems to remember like it was yesterday, perhaps because of the awkwardness, or cuteness – probably both. Atop fizzing guitars she explains how she ended up going back to the house of an older girl in school to practice kissing, with both dreaming of the day when they’d be confident enough to attract someone for real. As their lips lock, they evidently having a lot more going on in their minds than simply learning technique.
