Water From Your Eyes are a UFO on “Life Signs”, announce new album

Water From Your Eyes – the duo of Rachel Brown and Nate Amos – will release a new album called It’s A Beautiful Place on 22 August via Matador.

They’ve shared the lead single from the album, “Life Signs”, which finds them once again stitching together different art-rock approaches with inimitable style and slickness. While Amos’ guitar moves between low-flying UFO hum, sweet jangle-pop and full-on attack mode, Brown insouciantly sings of strolling around the world like some kind of extra terrestrial walking around the city, taking it all in, – the “strife in the city”, the “unwavering guilt” mounting around their numbness. Brown’s falsetto gives everything a sweet innocence, putting an innocent glaze over their pain – “I am coming apart / I’m becoming together / True to form,” they muse. The shapeshifting duo are back with an absolute howitzer, but it barely feels like they’re breaking a sweat, they’re just that good.

The video for “Life Signs” was directed by Brown themselves and features the duo as a cast of TV characters. They explain:

“Television has always been my biggest passion and this video was mostly conceived from my desire to experiment with the tropes of genre. But I also think the medium lends itself to the idea of fitting an infinite amount of universes into a little box you can keep in your living room. I wanted the video to encapsulate as many worlds as the song does and to express an entire lifetime within a short few minutes.”
