Kleo’s “Broken Hallelujah” delivers cinematic power

Danish pop artist Kleo writes songs that have the power of mini-movies from great directors like Sofia Coppola and Kathryn Bigelow. It’s altogether fitting that her new EP is entitled I Love This Movie, out now on Tambourhinoceros.

Movies have helped frame my worldview and have reached me in my darkest moments,” says Kleo. “All the emotions we experience in our lives are part of a larger, coherent narrative.”

A highlight from the four-track offering, “Broken Hallelujah” laments a love that got away, with echoes of the classic film A Star Is Born. Another highlight of the EP is “Beautiful Life”, a song that captures the ecstatic first act of Zeffirelli’s Romeo and Juliet.

It’s clear that Kleo is the screenwriter and cinematographer of her own unfolding story.

“Just like in dreams, with my music I can stretch and bend the colors as I want,” she says. I can create my own universe. Because I’m the one in charge of the pen.”

Kleo has an excellent chance of joining musicians like Lady Gaga who make it big on the silver screen.
