Kiwi jr. announce new album with the frenetic title track “Cooler Returns”

Toronto quartet Kiwi jr. recently shared “Undecided Voters”, their first song for Sub Pop, and today have revealed the details of the second album: it’s called Cooler Returns and will be released on January 22.

The news comes heralded by the title track, “Cooler Returns”, a song that continues their blustering trajectory established on their debut record Football Money. As the quartet work in tandem to create an aerodynamic slacker jam, singer Jeremy Gaudet’s woes pile up, starting with him feeling sick on Super Bowl Sunday, and quickly devolving into many more paranoid thoughts provoked by the current day. Nevertheless, Kiwi jr.’s playing is laser-focused, their tightness generating a momentum that just makes you want to forget everything and hop up and down in unison.

In fact, that’s exactly where the video for “Cooler Returns” comes in, Gaudet saying: “No one is able to play live shows, so using the latest technology we have replicated the most accurate version possible of what Kiwi Jr. shows once looked like.”

Kiwi jr.’s new album Cooler Returns comes out on January 22 via Sub Pop (except in Canada where it is released on their own Kiwi Club).
