Juliana Madrid chronicles the chaos on “Telephoning From Safari”

NYC artist and guitar ace Juliana โ€œJulesโ€ Madrid is a talent who feels destined for greatness. Her new single โ€œTelephoning From Safariโ€ is her most ambitious work to date. Itโ€™s hypnotic and political, a la The Police โ€“ and it gets my vote for Video of the Year.

Like playwright Edward Albee (The Zoo Story), Madrid sees modern society as little more than a gigantic zoo for a devolving species.

โ€œโ€˜Telephoning from Safariโ€™ is my take on modern technology and human disconnection,โ€ says Madrid. โ€œSocial media started as a really gorgeous and easy way to connect with family, friends, and strangers, but now it seems to have replaced real-life interaction altogether. I think more and more people are unknowingly trapped behind their screens. Itโ€™s easier to ignore/feel desensitized to the chaos around us than to empathize and create meaningful relationships and experiences. This song is an attempt at putting a spotlight on that chaos.โ€

While most of her peers fixate on boyfriends and breakups, Madrid is pursuing Art with a capital A. This feels like her breakout moment.
