Julia Holter lures us into her web on “Spinning”, announces new album

Julia Holter will release her sixth album, Something in the Room She Moves, on 22 March through Domino. Of the album, she says: “There’s a corporeal focus, inspired by the complexity and transformability of our bodiesI was trying to create a world that’s fluid-sounding, waterlike, evoking the body’s internal sound world.”

We’ve already heard the magical “Sun Girl”, which opens the album, and today we’re treated to the six-minute centrepiece “Spinning”. The track places Holter’s synths at its core, surging and dancing around her intriguing incantations while an insistent beat keeps the song flowing onwards. “Spinning” shifts in tone and approach across its runtime, incorporating a wealth of instrumentation to illustrate Holter’s existential lyrical inquiries.

“It’s about being in the passionate state of making something: being in that moment, and what is that moment?” Holter says of the song. Enjoy exploring these questions in the video for “Spinning” below, or find the track on streamers.
