Daffo — aka Brooklyn-based artist Gabi Bamberg — recently completed a US tour supporting illuminati hotties and is set to go back on the road with Blondshell and Annie DiRussio in the coming months. As a brief glimpse of what we might hear, she has released a new single called “Absence Makes the Heart Grow”, and it’s a bitter statement on the damage that distance can do to a relationship. Produced by Rob Schnapf and leading into her affection for grunge music, the song deals in unresolved rage and frustration over the gradual decay off a long-distance relationship. Guitars storm and surge through a barely-contained emotional cyclone, drums pounding away at your insides while Bamberg howls into the void. It’s a powerful reckoning with the powerlessness that can be felt as intimate connections are severed and love withers.
“I wrote the song at the end of a relationship, and in my pain, I felt as though the cliche about distance making the heart grow fonder was a sham,” says Gamberg. “It made everything harder, the waves of emotion that accompanied reuniting and separating were too intense to navigate. So, I decided to twist the saying into something that felt more real to me.”
