Alex G opens his heart on the contorted “Cross the Sea”

Alex G is gearing up to release his new album God Save The Animals in September, and it promises to be his most sonically diverse album yet given previous singles “Blessing” and “Runner”, as well as today’s new offering “Cross The Sea”.

The new track is a mellow and open-hearted song of intimate desire, although Alex G does his best to obscure the plain emotion on display by warping his voice and surrounding it with strange synth textures. It’s a song of searching that has a dystopian bent; he almost sounds like an AI or hologram, searching across some kind of all-encompassing network for his beloved. Whichever way you imagine it, there’s no denying the sonics give the emotions and melodies an unusual tinge, deepening the intrigue in unexpected ways.

Alex G’s new album God Save The Animals will be out on September 23 through Domino (pre-order/save). You can find him on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
