The hype surrounding 2pac’s addition to the Star Wars canon just doesn’t seem to stop. Following reports that the hologram may go on a tour with Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, the former finally spoke on the possibility with a TMZ reporter. He was excited about the idea, but made it clear he was only “thinking about it.” As of now, as many seem not to realize, the “hologram” is in fact 2D visual trickey, and Dre wants to perfect the representation into a true, 3D hologram.
Dre elaborated, saying, “I’m not sure right now, because right now, it’s a technology that’s happening where the hologram could be 360 degrees. Right now, it’s flat. It just looks like it’s three-dimensional from the front. But working on some new and different things for the future. Everybody’s in love with it right now, we’re having fun.”
Many have suggested this technology could lead to the resurrection of many fallen greats’ likenesses, and it’s clear Dre has considered this too, “Hopefully, different artists are able to bring out their favorite artists. Hopefully, we can see Jimi Hendrix and Marvin Gaye. We’ll see what happens.” Uh oh. This really could the beginning of a new, odd chapter in live music history.
