The Walkmen have announced the release of their sixth album, Heaven, which is due on June 5th through Fat Possum. This doesn’t come as a surprise since we’ve known for a little while that it’s been finished, but it is still exciting since The Walkmen are one of the most consistent bands currently out there, and the fact that they’re putting out records less than two years apart is certainly going to please fans.
We are particularly excited about the record thanks to a quote from singer Hamilton Leithauser who says that ““The detachment you can feel throughout our younger records is gone. We felt like it was time to make a bigger, more generous statement” – not that we didn’t love the detachment, but The Walkmen have proved on the odd occasion that they’re very good at making a “bigger, more generous statement,” so a whole album like that is bound to be pretty special.
Another exciting prospect of Heaven is getting to hear the voice of Robin Pecknold chiming in; the Fleet Foxes singer was brought into the Seattle studio where The Walkmen were working with producer Phil Ek (who produced both of Fleet Foxes’ albums) to sing harmonies on the first couple of tracks on the album.
No official song has been released yet, unfortunately, but you can watch the two minute teaser trailer below which does feature a new song and will definitely whet your appetite.
