Earlier this year Wye Oak took part in The A.V. Club’s A.V. Undercover series. The live sessions take place in The A.V. Club’s studio and it is obligatory that you perform covers chosen from the site’s predetermined list. For their part Wye Oak covered The Kinks’ “Strangers,” for which Jen and Andy drafted in Shearwater’s Jonathan Meiburg for assistance. This was so well received that they were invited back again another time, and they decided to cover Danzig’s “Mother.” Both sessions were extremely well liked and well viewed; in fact the last time I saw Wye Oak in London someone in the audience requested that they play their cover of “Strangers,” which they duly did, being the wonderful people they are.
Well now their label, Merge, is putting out a 7″ with both songs on it. Both songs will be available digitally too. The songs are set for release on November 22nd, but the vinyl is a limited run of 1000 so you’d better pre-order it now from here if you want it.
You can watch both of the A.V. Undercover sessions below.
