18-disc Leonard Cohen box set announced: The Complete Columbia Albums Collection

It has been revealed that they are releasing a new box set with remastered versions of all 17 of Leonard Cohen’s albums; his 11 studio albums and 6 live albums (Live In London is double disc, bringing the total number to 18 CDs). The box set, entitled The Complete Columbia Albums Collection, also comprises “a lavish 36-page booklet including all discographical annotations and recording information, as well as a brilliant 1,300-word essay by Pico Iyer.”

I often wonder who these packages are aimed at, whether it’s supposed to be die-hard fans who decide they want to buy the albums all over again just for the remastered version or the booklet, or new fans who’ve been thinking “I really ought to get into Leonard Cohen.” Maybe it’s for downloaders who have them all digitally but feel it’s time to own them physically. Well, whoever buys it will be getting it in a pretty nice box, as seen in the picture above (and better seen on the official site) and “each individual album is packaged in a replica mini-LP sleeve reproducing that album’s original cover art,” which is pretty cool, right? You can pre-order the box now from here for $139.99 and it ships on October 11th.
