Darcy Nelson embraces life on “Wild Awake”

Sometimes we hear an artist who gently reminds us that there’s more to life than getting a billion streams on Spotify. I’d put Joy Oladokun and Anna Graves in that category – and also newcomer Darcy Nelson. The Colorado-based artist has a new single called “Wild Awake” that’s rhythmically enchanting and makes you feel glad to be alive.

“‘Wild Awake’ was born after a day of horse medicine with joy coach Laura Marie in Colorado,” says Nelson. “Her brand, Wild Awake Woman, inspired me to reflect on my 2018 leap of faith – quitting my job, selling my things, and moving to Colorado with just my sedan and a dream for a new chapter. Embracing my wild, sassy, sweet self in a new place changed everything. I hope this song stirs a longing in others to do the same – no life-upheaval required.”

Nelson is a gifted singer who reminds me of Americana icon Katie Boeck. She’ll soon release her debut album, which also features “Life Is Good” – a perfect day-starter that sparkles with joy and possibilities. Says Nelson: “The album starts with a dream-state spoken-word piece, and follows an arc of conscious themes like gratitude, dream-chasing, environmental stewardship, and the divine feminine before resolving in a lullaby.”

As much as I like Charli XCX, I think I’d rather live in Darcy’s world.
