LA artist talker’s new single is entitled “Drag Your Feet”, but there was no foot-dragging among music-biz notables when they were asked to be part of her upcoming 2024 album. Producers and band members from Toro y Moi, Illuminati Hotties, boygenius and The All-American Rejects have been eager to assist her.
That enthusiasm is completely understandable because talker’s 2022 EP In Awe of Insignificance was a full-blown masterpiece. From the Big Sound and gorgeous melodies of “For The Sake Of It” and “IRL” to the courageous candor and stark beauty of “Little Bird” and “My Meds”, In Awe definitely stoked the anticipation for talker’s debut album.
“Drag Your Feet” is an impeccably crafted song that chronicles the waning days of a five-year relationship. The song builds inexorably toward the slashing guitars on the second chorus, followed by one of the most memorable bridges of the year.
The new song is also a showcase for talker’s flair for words, like this beautifully succinct epitaph for the relationship: “When all is said and done, I lose bits of me for none of you.”
