Nothing brings a person into the present moment quite like music, diving in a swimming pool and driving a quad bike wearing a princess dress. You can experience all three on the video for Mereki’s new single “Presence”.
The Australian/English artist wrote the first verse of the song while hearing Dhani Harrison and Blur’s Graham Coxon recording on the floor below. She shared her work with Harrison, who helped her finish the song.
“I’m not saying that I’m enlightened and I live in ‘Presence’ all the time – far from it,” says Mereki. “I’m just trying to say that I know what it is when I can, and it’s so beautiful. I want to share that with people because I truly believe that when I can pull myself back into the present moment, really ‘be here now’, then everything is so lovely. I want that for me, and for you, and for everyone. My mind gets the better of me all the time and I need to train it not to. I guess this song is kind of an anthem for that.”
Earlier this year, Mereki enjoyed another memorable Now Moment when she made her UK live debut at the Glastonbury Festival. The multi-talented artist is currently working on a children’s book and a collection of portrait photography.
