Nuha Ruby Ra reintroduces herself with the spine-tingling “Self Portraiture”, announces new EP

London-based art punk Nuha Ruby Ra has announced a new EP to follow-up 2021’s excellent How To Move; it’s called Machine Like Me and arrives on March 3 through Brace Yourself. The six-track offering features previous single “My Voice” and today’s new offering “Self Portraiture”.

On the new track, Nuha says: “Self Portraiture is a raw portrait of myself right now, think of it like a painting. I think the song is lyrically revealing, to give anymore away would be to limit the imagination of the receiver. Donโ€™t be fooled by the beginning, the middle, or the end.”

Despite the desire to turn the spotlight on herself, “Self Portraiture” finds the singer repeatedly demanding “don’t touch me / feel me” and “stop looking at me”, pushing us away then drawing us in with her compelling voice and lyricism. The continual subversion of expectations is soundtracked by high-wire synth and creeping guitar, leading to sudden dynamic shifts and aural trap doors. All together, it creates a hallucinatory and unsettling vision of a multi-faceted modern artist.
