Nuha Ruby Ra reintroduces herself with the spine-tingling “Self Portraiture”, announces new EP

London-based art punk Nuha Ruby Ra has announced a new EP to follow-up 2021’s excellent How To Move; it’s called Machine Like Me and arrives on March 3 through Brace Yourself. The six-track offering features previous single “My Voice” and today’s new offering “Self Portraiture”.

On the new track, Nuha says: “Self Portraiture is a raw portrait of myself right now, think of it like a painting. I think the song is lyrically revealing, to give anymore away would be to limit the imagination of the receiver. Don’t be fooled by the beginning, the middle, or the end.”

Despite the desire to turn the spotlight on herself, “Self Portraiture” finds the singer repeatedly demanding “don’t touch me / feel me” and “stop looking at me”, pushing us away then drawing us in with her compelling voice and lyricism. The continual subversion of expectations is soundtracked by high-wire synth and creeping guitar, leading to sudden dynamic shifts and aural trap doors. All together, it creates a hallucinatory and unsettling vision of a multi-faceted modern artist.
