of Montreal’s live shows combine the infectious, feel-good fun of ’70s P-Funk shows and the glam theatricality of David Bowie concerts of the same era. They are one of those bands that needs a documentary. Fortunately, someone else had the same idea–thus, oM’s upcoming documentary Family Nouveau will premiere in Chicago at the Chicago International Music and Movies and Music Festival on March 5.
Filmed by English professor Spenser Simrill Jr., the documentary follows the band through their European tour from 2009. So far, there is no info regarding a future DVD release. Regardless, this documentary fits in perfectly with the oM-filled music landscape we will certainly be viewing for the next several months until the release of their forthcoming album.
