Following last year’s collection of rarities, Canadian rockers METZ have announced their first new album in a few years; it’s called Atlas Vending and will be coming out on October 9 through Sub Pop.
The album is preceded by the eight-minute closing track “A Boat to Drown In”, which they say is “about leaving a bad situation behind. About overcoming obstacles that once held you back, rising above, and looking to a better future. The title refers to immersing yourself fully into what you love and using it as a sanctuary from negativity and a catalyst for change.”
Stretching out their usual fast and loud sound to make “A Boat To Drown In” their longest song to date, METZ have introduced us to their new level of artistry and dynamism. There’s still plenty of the battering-ram rock they’ve made their calling card, but a whole lot more atmosphere and poise infused in it too.
Even better, “A Boat To Drown In” comes with a video – practically a short film – that will have you captivated throughout its weird, hilarious and totally unpredictable run time. You can watch that below.
