Vampire Weekend to play Barack Obama college benefit

There’s no doubt that many Americans don’t vote during the Presidential elections, or really any elections at all, but Vampire Weekend wants that to change. The band is throwing a free Barack Obama benefit concert which main purpose will not be to attracting voters for Barack Obama, but to attract voters in general. During the concert there will be free voting registrations set up around the concert.

This event is being set up by the Students for Barack Obama at Carnegie Melon University. There is no age limit to attend this concert and you do not have to be a student at Carnegie Melon University to attend either. The main purpose of the Benefit concert is to get as many people to register for the upcoming elections and for people who have already registered to make sure that their registration has gone through; according to Vampire Weekend’s MySpace page.

The band is in full support of the Barack Obama campaign but believe that the idea of voting is just as important as who you vote for. The concert will be on October 4, 2008 on the College of Fine Arts Lawn, Carnegie Melon University, Pittsburgh, PA at 4 pm.
