The xx win Mercury Prize for Best British Album of the Year

UK electronic trio The xx have claimed the 2010 Mercury Prize for Best Album of the Year, the most prestigious award in British music, for their self-titled album. They beat out such other talents as Corinne Bailey Rae (The Sea), Mumford & Sons (Sigh No More), and Wild Beasts (Two Dancers). This is the first album from The xx, and the Mercury Prize is another step in the band’s meteoric ascent.

The Barclaycard Mercury Prize exists as a champion of music in the UK through the ‘Albums of the Year’ competition, which celebrates recorded music of all genres by British or Irish artists.
