Teenage Fanclub reflect on yearning and the echoes of Glasgow on new single, “Be With You Tonight”

Teenage Fanclub will release their latest album, Do Not Dare to Dream, on October 9, and it finds them continuing to refine their inimitable blend of melody-forward songcraft and reflective lyrical narratives. Having previously shared “Day in the Sun” and “There Was You“, the band have long found their natural groove, offering harmonies that extend well past the horizon and shimmering guitars that catch the light of the sun in spectacular fashion.

On their latest single, “Be With You Tonight”, the band constructs a welcoming tale of yearning that sparkles through strummed guitars, Mellotron strings, and some rather gorgeous piano that breaks across your heart in unexpected ways. The melody twists and turns, finding new avenues to pluck those heartstrings even as it paints a somewhat somber portrait of a world in which we dare hope that love can flourish. Its beauty is in its multitudes of pop history and execution, as rippling rhythms envelope and support — the band pausing only for the briefest of moments to allow a glimpse of the world they’ve built. And it looks a lot like Glasgow.
